Senator Stabenow Announces Federal Funds for Rural Communities in the Upper Peninsula

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced $753,500 to support rural communities in the Upper Peninsula. These funds come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program, secured by Senator Stabenow in the 2018 Farm Bill. 

“These investments will help meet the critical needs of people across the UP,” said Senator Stabenow. “This funding will help small communities across the region prosper and support our hospitals and first responders who keep our communities safe.” 

The following communities will receive funding from the Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program:

·       Munising Memorial Hospital will receive $63,000 to purchase x-ray equipment. 

·       The City of Iron Mountain will receive $14,300 to purchase a patrol vehicle. 

·       The City of Crystal Falls will receive $27,400 to purchase a patrol vehicle. 

·       The City of Iron River will receive $100,000 to purchase a snowplow. 

·       Adams Township will receive $50,000 to purchase a pumper truck. 

·       Gogebic County will receive $8,400 to purchase a new heating system. 

·       The City of Wakefield, will receive $242,000 to purchase a news facility to relocate their department of public works. 

·       Houghton County will receive $70,600 to purchase two patrol vehicles. 

·       The City of Houghton will receive $25,700 to purchase a patrol vehicle. 

·       Keweenaw County will receive $18,400 to purchase a patrol vehicle. 

·       The City of Norway will receive $23,200 to purchase a patrol vehicle. 

·       The City of Manistique will receive $110,500 to purchase an ambulance.
