Rehabilitation clinics for catastrophically injured car accident victims that stand to lose money as part of the 2019 auto insurance reforms can apply for a piece of a $10 million pie, under legislation the House passed, 95-13, Thursday evening.
A revamped version of SB 0028 passed Thursday after the House turned down amendments by Rep. Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) to permanently adjust the payment schedules for providers.
House Speaker Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) said the bill is to assist the "good actors" among brain injury clinics that can prove they are being driven to shut down by the 2019 auto insurance law.
To take advantage of the money, providers must open their books to the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) to prove they would suffer a hardship under the new law.
