EAST LANSING, Mich. — Ronald McDonald House Charities Mid-Michigan (RMHCMM) is inviting golfers of all skill levels to participate in the annual Golf for the House at Hawk Hallow Golf Course on Monday, July 24. Proceeds from the 18-hole golf scramble help the House provide a home-away-from-home to families with sick children at Lansing-area hospitals and clinics. Michigan McDonald's Owner/Operator Business Association is the event’s title sponsor.

“Golf for the House is one of our longest-running fundraiser events,” said Carolyn Hurst, executive director of RMHCMM. “This event helped build the House in 1999 and is how we continue to make a difference for families with seriously ill children. ”

The 18-hole scramble raises awareness and money to give families a place to call home during life's most challenging moments. Additionally, the event is an opportunity for attendees to hear from a family that previously stayed at the House.

This year, Adam and Christina Carlson of Okemos will share their story.  The Carlsons stayed at the House when their youngest son, Teddy, had difficulty breathing shortly after birth.

“It’s very emotional being discharged from the hospital without your baby,” Christina Carlson said. “We were very thankful that we could get a room at the House so we were steps away from our child instead of miles.”

Thanks to the care he received at Sparrow Hospital and the comfort the House provided his parents, Teddy is a happy, healthy, 4-year-old who loves cats, swimming and trains.

“Our stay at the House was amazing. The convenience was our main priority but it also felt like you were in a home, even though it wasn't your own home. It was also comforting to be with other parents going through a very similar situation,” Adam Carlson said. “We’re so excited to be part of this year’s Golf for the House. It’s our way of showing appreciation and helping families who may be experiencing something similar to us.”

On-site registration for the scramble begins at 8:30 a.m. with golfers set to tee off at 9:30 am. Online registration is open through the morning of the in-person event.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Mid-Michigan is grateful for its 2023 event sponsors: Michigan McDonald’s Owner/Operator Business Association, Brandon & Kelly VanPoppelen, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, Saputo Family McDonald’s, Wolgast Corporation, BRD Printing, Peters McDonald’s, Dart Bank, Kirk & Marie Heath, Stanton Family, Coca-Cola, Rodewald Organization, JD Wisner Electric, Young Chevrolet Cadillac, S&S Die Company, UHY Advisors, H&K International, Tyson Foods, GAF Roofing, Dr Pepper, National Beef, Martin Brower, New Horizons Baking, Terri Beebe McDonald’s, LaFontaine Automotive Group, Restaurant Technologies, Yeo and Yeo CPAs, Allied Integrated Wealth, Ecolab, McCardel Restoration.
