Peters Riding Through Muskegon, Ironwood, Escanaba, Traverse City, Bay City, Lansing & Novi to Meet with Michiganders and Discuss Ways to Position Michigan Communities for the Future
DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) began his annual motorcycle tour across Michigan last Wednesday in Muskegon. Peters, who is an avid motorcycle rider, has been traveling across the state to talk about “Paving the Way for Michigan’s Future.”
“My favorite way to travel across our state and meet with Michiganders is by riding my motorcycle,” said Senator Peters. “It’s an opportunity to not only reflect on the progress we’ve made together but to look ahead – and that’s why this year’s tour is called ‘Paving the Way for Michigan’s Future.’”
“I’m looking forward to talking about everything from increasing support for workforce development programs, standing with Michigan workers and veterans, upgrading our roads and bridges, helping farmers address threats to their crops, and growing our state’s defense footprint.”
Peters is making stops in Muskegon, Ironwood, Escanaba, Traverse City, Bay City, Lansing, and Novi. He will conclude the tour, tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th in Novi. During the tour, Peters is joined on the ride by veterans, motorcycle safety advocates, workers, and constituents. Peters, who founded the bipartisan Senate Motorcycle Caucus, will ride more than 1,300 miles across the state.

Yesterday, Peters Highlights Efforts to Bolster Workforce Development at Bay College
ESCANABA, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) stopped in Escanaba Tuesday on his annual motorcycle tour across Michigan. On his “Paving the Way for Michigan’s Future” tour, Peters visited Bay College to see firsthand how their workforce development efforts are helping students obtain in-demand jobs. Peters also toured the college’s “Water Lab” where students in the Water Resource Management Program and Water Technology Program acquire specialized training in water and wastewater treatment and water pollution prevention – skills critical to ensuring clean drinking water for Michiganders and protecting the Great Lakes. Following the tour, Peters joined senior leaders from Bay College to discuss how they are helping to meet regional and statewide workforce demands –supporting local businesses and industries critical to Michigan’s future.
“There is a growing need in our state for workers that have the technical training in water management and technologies – and Bay College is answering the call,” said Senator Peters. “These skills training programs are not only creating a pipeline of qualified workers to our water sector – but helping to protect our Great Lakes and ensure Michiganders have clean drinking water.”
“I’ll keep fighting to boost federal support for workforce development initiatives like those here at Bay College to keep Michigan competitive in the 21st-century economy,” Peters continued.

Peters has worked to expand skills training opportunities, including in STEM education, to strengthen our nation’s economic competitiveness and help more Michiganders secure good-paying jobs. He previously helped enact bipartisan legislation that included provisions he authored to expand access to career and technical education (CTE) opportunities outside of the traditional four-year degree career pathway. Peters also authored bipartisan legislation, which was signed into law, to allow more veterans to use their GI bill benefits toward securing a registered apprenticeship. Peters additionally helped pass significant support for workforce development programs and registered apprenticeships across the country through the government funding bill signed into law last year.

THURSDAY AT 9:00 AM: Peters to Stop in Lansing on Annual Motorcycle Tour, Meet with Local UAW to Discuss Priorities Important to Michigan Workers
LANSING, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) will stop in Lansing on THURSDAY, August 17th at 9:00 AM during his annual motorcycle tour across Michigan.
As part of his “Paving the Way for Michigan’s Future” tour, Peters will visit United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 652 to meet with members and retirees to discuss priorities important to autoworkers.
Peters grew up in a union household and has been a champion for Michigan and American workers, including union workers. His father was an NEA teacher and his mother was a nurse’s aide, who worked with the SEIU to organize her workplace and his father-in-law is a UAW Local 5690 retiree. Peters is a committed advocate for workers’ right to collectively bargain and fight for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces.
Peters – an avid motorcycle rider – will be joined by guest riders on his ride to Lansing, during his final day on his annual motorcycle tour.
