Hello  -

One thing I’ve learned since moving to Michigan is the respect and love folks have for the lakes and rivers that make this state so unique. After attending the Drones & E-Boats Demonstration Day at Elk Rapids Marina on Elk Lake last week, I got to see that passion first hand, and also experience sustainable recreational boating solutions that ensure these waters are safe and clean for generations to come. I even took the helm and navigated Elk Lake aboard a Lilypad electric boat.

The event, which was made possible through support from Advanced Aerial Mobility (AAM) Activation Fund, was a great way to increase awareness around what’s possible for EVs beyond the roads. I’m excited to continue to experience all Michigan has to offer, and to do so sustainably and innovatively.

Michigan Receives $18 Million from the DOE to Help Small Auto Suppliers Modernize Manufacturing Capabilities

The State of Michigan has announced it will receive $18 million from the Department of Energy (DOE) to help small- and medium-sized automotive companies modernize their capabilities to manufacture electric vehicles (EV). This investment allows Michigan to develop a domestic and diversified EV supply chain, retain high-quality, good-paying jobs, meet the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan and support the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of having 50 percent of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030.

The DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) Announces $43 Million Batteries Funding Opportunity

The DOE has also announced $43 million in funding for projects that will advance research, development, demonstration, and deployment in several areas critical to the future of advanced batteries. The funding will drive innovations in low-cost EV battery electrode, cell, or pack manufacturing; improve battery safety and reduce cascading failures; and strengthen the domestic supply chain of inexpensive and abundant battery materials.
