Find the Resources to Join These Small Business Greats
To close out Small Business Month, here’s a look at past and present awardees from two decades of Michigan Celebrates Small Business (MCSB) honoring our entrepreneurial community.
A decades-long hot streak: ThermoAnalytics, Inc., a thermal simulation software specialist, has built success by prioritizing people, both customers and employees, since becoming a Michigan 50 Companies to Watch in 2005.
Getting better with age: 20 years ago, Black Star Farms was a Michigan 50 Companies to Watch awardee. Now, after adding a boutique inn, equestrian facility and terraced vineyard, they’re setting the bar for world-class hospitality.
Leading the pack: Cerberus Security, the 2024 Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year, found the confidence to make difficult business decisions and keep the company on the right path.
Small Business Love Languages
Kristi Nichols-Shopbell grew up with a love for the state’s natural attributes, but a wine tasting elective class added a few more loves to the list.
Nichols-Shopbell met her husband at the college course in 3 North Wonders Hall at Michigan State University. The couple went on to purchase a farm property and eventually expanded with a taphouse and eatery.
“We opened 3 North Vines because we had a passion to work for ourselves and we loved vineyards and working outside,” said Nichols-Shopbell.
