Jeffrey Mosher went on the road, Thursday, April 6th, to LAFCU headquarters at 106 N. Marketplace Blvd., Lansing, MI. As it was a check presentation for LAFCU and the community's efforts to raise $1,120 to send an Everett High School Senior to prom.

LANSING, Mich. — Going to prom is a quintessential part of the high school experience, but financial and other constraints can sometimes prevent students from attending the symbolic event. Money to cover prom expenses is the latest in a series of support bestowed on Lansing youth, Eric Cooper, by LAFCU and other community-minded donors including Centennial Group and Lansing Church of God in Christ.

On hand were LAFCU Chief Human Resources Officer, Robyn Howell, and Tanya Griffin, SMSR, they presented the check to Eric Cooper, an Everett High School student, on behalf of LAFCU.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Eric Cooper is the American-born son of a Haiti refugee mother and an absentee father, Cooper faced numerous challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. When schools closed during his sophomore year, Cooper and his family did not have the resources to fully participate in virtual online learning, and he fell way behind.

Lance Rhines, LAFCU’s former Local 459 Union representative, engaged LAFCU and others to help provide Cooper with a great experience for his senior year of high school. The community rallied behind him by raising funds for clothing, a discounted vehicle to get him to and from work and soccer practice, and more. You could say they “adopted” Cooper.

With help from Rhines, LAFCU, and friends, and Cooper’s own hard work and perseverance, he was able to not only overcome and adapt but also thrive in the face of adversity. He will attend the Everett High School prom on May 13th, and he recently received a full soccer scholarship to Great Lakes Christian College, where he will begin his studies in the fall.
