Chris Holman welcomes back Bob Jacquart Chairman Stormy Kromer Ironwood, MI, along with Jonah Lottig, Operations Manager, Snowtrekker, Holmen, WI.
Watch Bob, Jonah and Chris discuss the recent collaboration between Stormy Kromer and Snowtrekker, in the YouTube video shared below.
Bob, I understand the iconic Michigan company, we know and love has partnered with the Midwest tent company Snowtrekker on a first-of-its-kind portable sauna, tell us about that.
What's even cooler is it is two family-owned companies working together, can either of you elaborate?
Traditional saunas, such as the Snowtrekker Tent x Stormy Kromer Sauna, heat up the room using a wood-burning wood stove, temperatures usually range between 158 and 212 °F, what else should we know?
A sauna has many health benefits and is often used for relaxation and stress relief. When a person sits in a sauna, their heart rate increases, and blood vessels widen. This increases circulation, in a similar way to low to moderate exercise depending on the duration of sauna use, can either of you dive deeper into this?
How many does it fit, and how can our audience get one or find out more?
Here are some further details:
Iconic Outdoor Apparel Company Partners with Midwest-based Tent Outfitter to Create High-End Portable Canvas Sauna
The Snowtrekker Tent x Stormy Kromer Sauna is designed to comfortably fit 4 to 6 people and can be set up for extended periods of time
After five years in development, Snowtrekker, in collaboration with Stormy Kromer, has launched the first U.S. manufactured high-end portable canvas sauna tent. The sauna, which retails at $4,200, is constructed with two layers of 100% cotton fabric for maximum heat retention and can comfortably fit 4 to 6 people. The base of the tent and the full coverage rain fly are constructed of pyrocell to protect the tent from ground moisture when the sauna is set up for extended periods of time. Pyrocell is flame retardant, 100% waterproof, and has extremely high UV resistance characteristics.
“My goal was to create a portable sauna that gives an experience as close to a permanent structure wood fired sauna as you can get,” said Duane Lottig, Snowtrekker Co-Owner, and Inventor. “Providing the opportunity to those who don’t have the space, ability, or budget to have a permanent structure was an important factor when developing the Snowtrekker Tent x Stormy Kromer Sauna.”
The Snowtrekker Tent x Stormy Kromer Sauna retails at $4,200 and can be purchased with or without the frame. The full tent package includes the sauna, tent fly, 8 unions, 1 union with set screw, 21 bungee ball connectors, 6 guy out ropes, 1 front door picket, 2-101” Easton bungee corded sauna fly guy out poles, 6 rubber leg end tips, 9 skewer stakes, and 6 heavy duty tent stakes.

“We are excited to be partnering with a brand we believe in to create a one-of-a-kind product for outdoor enthusiasts who are dedicated to living well wherever they are,” said Gina Thorsen, CEO and co-owner of Stormy Kromer and Jacquart Fabric Products. “The Upper Midwest has a prevalent sauna culture and boasts an ideal climate for it with our crisp winter nights and lake effect snow. In some regions of the U.P. up to 90% of residents have saunas.”
Traditional saunas, such as the Snowtrekker Tent x Stormy Kromer Sauna, heat up the room using a wood-burning wood stove, temperatures usually range between 158 and 212 °F. A sauna has many health benefits and is often used for relaxation and stress relief. When a person sits in a sauna, their heart rate increases and blood vessels widen. This increases circulation, in a similar way to low to moderate exercise depending on the duration of sauna use.
For those new to the sauna culture, it is pronounced SOW-NA (not SAW-NA).

Stormy Kromer
Since 1903, the Stormy Kromer brand has come to embody the independence, wit, and grit of the upper Midwest. It all started with a cap. George “Stormy” Kromer, a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer, kept losing his hat on the train. He asked his wife, Ida, to sew an ear band on his favorite ball cap to keep his ears warm and the hat snug. It worked. Over the past century, many brands have come and gone, yet Stormy Kromer has survived and thrived—thanks to the adventurers, the workers, the dreamers, and all the excellent people who value style, durability, and a sense of fun.
Located in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula, today Stormy Kromer proudly continues its tradition of hand-crafting American-made products and supporting American-made jobs. For more information, visit www.stormykromer.com.
Snowtrekker
Duane and Margot Lottig, along with their three sons, spent summers canoe-camping in Canada and winters hot-tent camping all over northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada. But Duane could never find a canvas tent for winter camping he was happy with. The solution? Buy a commercial sewing machine and make his own. From that, Empire Canvas Works (ECW) was born.
Twelve years later, ECW (except for the canvas tents) was sold. Duane and Margot went forward with Snowtrekker® Tents, focusing solely on the tents that were Duane’s vision when he started ECW. The rest is history. Duane and Margot and their 3 sons continue the Snowtrekker tradition. Today, Snowtrekker® Tents help thousands of people enjoy paradise below zero (or at least below freezing!) in the safety and comfort of the heat-able canvas tents they call "hot tents."

COLLABORATIONS
OCTOBER 15, 2022
We’re so excited to give you the very first glimpse of an innovative new product that’s been several years in the making!
Although you know and love Stormy Kromer for our thoughtfully crafted clothing and accessories, you may also know us as part of Jacquart Fabric Products (JFP), a third-generation cut-and-sew manufacturer based in Ironwood, Michigan. Since Bob Jacquart Sr. launched JFP in 1958, our talented team has contracted with other companies to make their products. Since Stormy Kromer joined the family in 2001, it’s taken up most of our business, but we still cut and sew for some valued clients.
One of those companies is Snowtrekker Tents. For more than 15 years, we’ve proudly manufactured their highly regarded winter camping tents. Snowtrekker is the perfect partner for us. Like JFP, they’re family-owned and run, based in the Midwest, and passionate about outfitting people to experience the beauty of winter.
We were thrilled when they approached us to help them design and prototype their newest creation — a canvas sauna tent! With roots in the Finnish-influenced culture of the Upper Peninsula, saunas have always been near and dear to our hearts. From sourcing the right fabrics to making dozens of prototypes, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with Snowtrekker to create a truly authentic sauna experience that’s both fully portable and more cost-effective than traditional frame-built saunas.
We’re proud to be a part of this exciting product, and for it to carry the Stormy Kromer name, reputation and quality. As a member of the Stormy Kromer family, you’re one of the first to learn about our new sauna tent! You can learn more and purchase your Snowtrekker Tents/Stormy Kromer Sauna Tent at Snowtrekker’s website. Enjoy!
