Capital Area Michigan Works! and T3 hold Greater Lansing’s largest career exploration event to provide an interactive learning experience to students

LANSING, Mich. — Capital Area Michigan Works! and its T3: Teach. Talent. Thrive. council is hosting MiCareerQuest Capital Area to introduce Michigan high school students to high-demand, high-wage jobs in the Lansing area. For the first time in the event’s history, a free public session will be held to invite additional students, parents and community members to explore career paths and connect with local professionals.

The public session will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Lansing Center, 333 Michigan Ave. High school and college students enrolled in Lansing-area schools, including those in Eaton, Clinton and Ingham counties, are invited to attend. During the event, students will meet employers and participate in hands-on activities to learn about the career opportunities in Lansing.

“We believe every young adult should have access to resources and information that will help them plan for their future,” T3 Education Officer Amirika Richardson said. “MiCareerQuest Capital Area is unique because youth can explore careers in a personal, hands-on format. We want our students to leave the event inspired by the opportunities in our community and help them gain confidence to pursue new career fields they may not have known about.”

Over 70 local businesses will participate in the event as industry exhibitors, including Sparrow, Lansing Board of Water & Light and Michigan NECA. Employers will highlight career paths in the capital region’s top industries, including health and human services; business, information technology, arts and communications; natural resources and  agriscience; and manufacturing, engineering and industrial technology.

“We know 42% of high school graduates do not feel confident in their post-high-school career pathways,” CAMW! Chief Executive Officer Carrie Rosingana said. “Through career exploration events like MiCareerQuest Capital Area, we can support youth in making informed career choices and show them they can live, work, and succeed in Lansing.”
