Mike Gilmore, a humble expert in this field provides a brief recap and some insight into the history of the significant, successful acquisition strategy used by Delta Delta of MI. He also shares a little personal gem about his professional hockey career and how that relates to Delta Dental.
About Mike Gilmore
Mike Gilmore manages The 4100 Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Dental of
Michigan and Delta Dental of Ohio. The 4100 Group is focused on the pursuit of
strategic growth opportunities and acquisitions in an effort to help diversify the
organization and create long-term value. Mike was also President and CEO of another
one of the enterprise’s subsidiaries, Red Cedar Investment Management, and has 23
years of investment related experience. Mike rejoined Delta Dental of Michigan and
created Red Cedar Investment Management in 2013 after working for two years at a
Registered Investment Advisor in East Lansing, MI. Mike previously worked at Delta
Dental of Michigan, serving as Director, Automotive Accounts and Labor Market
Relations from 2007 to 2010, and Manager, Investments from 2003 to 2007. Prior to
joining Delta Dental of Michigan, Mr. Gilmore worked for Lyon Street Asset
Management, a subsidiary of Old Kent Bank, which was acquired by Fifth Third Bank,
where he served in various capacities, including Fund Manager, Institutional Portfolio
Manager, and Investment Analyst. Prior to working at Lyon Street, Mr. Gilmore played
professional hockey for two years in the New York Rangers system.
Mr. Gilmore earned both his MBA, Finance, and B.S. Engineering from Michigan State
University, where he was a four-year letter winner, team captain and Academic All-
American ice hockey player. Mr. Gilmore currently serves on the nine-member
Retirement Board for the Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS) of
Michigan, where he is one of two public members and member of the Investment
Committee. Mr. Gilmore also serves on the Board of Directors and Investment
Committee for the Capital Region Community Foundation, as well as the Board of
Directors for Impression 5 Science Center, Ele’s Place-Lansing Community Board, and
Cap City Athletic 1847 youth sport organization.
