Michiganders Encouraged to Explore Paid Training Career Opportunities During Michigan Apprenticeship Week
 
 

To highlight the important role that registered apprenticeships play in supporting both employers who need skilled talent and Michigan’s workers who gain skills toward rewarding, high-wage and in-demand careers, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared Nov. 14-20 as Michigan Apprenticeship Week. As part of this week, Michigan career seekers are encouraged to consider earning while learning through a paid registered apprenticeship program.

 
 
 
 
 
Gov. Whitmer Forms Semiconductor Talent Action Team to Attract Businesses, Grow Economy, Onshore Supply Chains
 
 

Governor Whitmer joined the MEDC yesterday to announce the new Semiconductor Talent Action Team, a collaborative, public/private partnership aimed at making Michigan a top state for semiconductor talent solutions and growth. The action team will build on the governor’s efforts to onshore critical supply chains of semiconductors back to Michigan, creating good-paying jobs, and reducing delays and shortages.

 
 
 
 
 
Outdoor Economy Surges in Michigan, Attracting National Recognition
 
 

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, the outdoor recreation economy in Michigan grew an impressive 15.4 percent from 2020 to 2021, and that outdoor recreation creates $10.8 billion in value added for Michigan. Brad Garmon, Executive Director of the Michigan Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, was elected to chair the national outdoor industry Confluence of States coalition for 2023. This position comes on the heels of the Michigan Outdoor Recreation Industry Office’s move to the MEDC to continue to strengthen the state’s outdoor recreation businesses and products.
