Historically Disadvantaged Small Businesses Can Grow Through Federal Contracts 

Small businesses that are historically disadvantaged can become certified to gain access to set-aside federal contracting money, technical help and business mentoring. Join an informational webinar on June 8 at 11 a.m. to learn about certification benefits and eligibility for business owners who are socially and economically disadvantaged, women and service-disabled veterans, and for businesses operating in high-unemployment, low-income areas.

The session will be hosted by the Small Business Association Michigan District Office and the Office of U.S. Senator Gary Peters.

Learn About Access to Capital for Service Member-Owned Businesses
 
 

Service members who are active duty, reservists and veterans can learn about getting their first small business loan at a June 15 workshop at Washtenaw Community College. The Michigan Small Business Development Center will offer advice for evaluating loan programs, answers to financing questions and support for developing business plans that support applications. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet potential lenders.

 
 
 
 
Developer Day Offers Tours of New Sites in Grand Rapids
 
 

Real estate developers, construction firms, and related industry professionals can get an insider tour of development sites in Grand Rapids at Developer Day on June 7. Attendees will get a first look at new sites while networking with local leaders. The event includes lunch, a development exhibition, happy hour, and personal tours at Factory Yards, one of the most anticipated large-scale developments in Grand Rapids.

 
 
 
 
Barrister Brewing Finds New Home in Historic Owosso Building
 
 

Barrister Brewing will have a new home after the rehabilitation of a long-vacant, 19th-century building into a microbrewery, bar, and restaurant. The Westown Owosso mixed-use project also includes two apartments, a new insulated cool roof, and aspects such as windows and façade features that remain consistent with the building’s historic character.

The revitalization project will receive over $557,000 in gap financing through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Community Revitalization Program, $21,000 from the City of Owosso through its Main Street Program, and $100,000 from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
