Michigan Celebrates Small Business Awards Program Announces 2023 Recipients

After receiving over 500 nominations, over 80 small businesses from across the state of Michigan will be highlighted for their positive impact at the 19th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business (MCSB) Gala.

On May 2, 2023, over 800 guests will come together at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan to celebrate the achievements of this year’s award recipients. Award categories include:
- Michigan 50 Companies to Watch
- SBDC Best Small Business
- PTAC Best Small Business
- SmartZone Best Small Business
- Michigan 50 Distinguished Alumni - Great Place to Work 
- Michigan 50 Distinguished Alumni - Strategically Focused 
- Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year 
- Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year

The gala launched in 2005 and has become Michigan’s awards program for small businesses. There have been over 1,000 companies honored at MCSB over the past 19 years, including 950 second-stage companies recognized as a Michigan 50 Companies to Watch Awardee.

“The Michigan Celebrates gala means more than giving out awards to small businesses -- it’s coming together as a state to celebrate what success looks like through leadership, perseverance, and community,” said Lauren Snyder, Vice President of Customer Experience for MCSB event sponsor, Consumers Energy. “We’re excited to celebrate those employers who put Michigan to work, who reflect our state’s values, and who will help power our economy for the next generation.”

The six Founding Partners created an annual awards gala to recognize small business and second-stage companies. The founding organizations of Michigan Celebrates are as follows:

- Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
- Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
- Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM)
- U.S. Small Business Administration – Michigan District Office
