October 17, 2024 - The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) announces its support for the Eaton County Tax Limitation Proposal, which will be presented to voters on November 5, 2024. The proposal seeks to increase the county's tax levy by an additional 3.0 mills, generating approximately $12 million annually to fund essential services, address budget shortfalls, and support critical public safety and infrastructure.

The LRCC believes this proposal aligns with our commitment to fostering an environment that ensures long-term economic stability and growth for Eaton County. Additional revenue is necessary to prevent severe budget cuts that would otherwise impact vital public safety services, road maintenance, and other critical infrastructure that residents, workers, businesses, and visitors rely on for their operations and success.

"This proposal addresses a clear and urgent need for additional revenue to safeguard the services that maintain the safety, stability, and attractiveness of Eaton County as a place for businesses to grow and invest," said Tim Daman, President & CEO of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. "Without it, the business community and the region as a whole would face significant challenges, including reduced public safety and deteriorating infrastructure."

The LRCC also emphasizes the importance of fiscal accountability and transparency in how the new tax revenue is managed. We recommend that Eaton County establish a Financial Health Team composed of county officials, business, and community leaders ensure responsible use of the additional funds, focusing on maintaining essential services and promoting economic development.

We urge voters to support the Eaton County Tax Limitation Proposal to protect the county’s financial health, public safety, and future economic growth.
