LEO | MIOSHA Recognizes Nucraft Furniture with MVPP Star Award for Exceptional Commitment to Workplace Safety

LANSING, Mich. –  The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has awarded Nucraft Furniture in Comstock Park the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star award, recognizing the company’s outstanding commitment to workplace safety and health. 

As the highest safety and health distinction in the state, Nucraft joins a group of 26 Michigan companies with MVPP Star status. 

MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division leaders presented Nucraft with its MVPP Star award and plaque at its Comstock Park facility on Sept. 18.   

“Nucraft’s commitment to workplace safety and employee well-being is truly impressive,” said MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training Division Director Tarah Kile. “Their proactive efforts, from innovative solutions to strong leadership engagement, set a high standard for safety excellence.”

Nucraft, a 305-employee office furniture manufacturer, earned MVPP Rising Star designation in 2023, a steppingstone to the Michigan Star designationwhich recognizes the highest standards of workplace safety and health. 

“I am so proud of our Nucraft associates achieving MIOSHA VPP Star status,” said Nucraft Furniture CEO Matt Schad. “It represents an enormous effort and continual dedication to making Nucraft a safe place to work. Congratulations to the Nucraft team."

MIOSHA identified the following best practices that demonstrate the company's safety and health management system excellence:  

  • Management Leadership: Nucraft's leadership visibly demonstrates care for employee well-being through daily actions and communication. 
  • Ergonomic Innovation: The company uses custom tools, like compressed air suction cup lifting aids, to reduce ergonomic strain and boost efficiency. 
  • Forklift Safety: Nucraft has designated pedestrian-free zones and an escort system to ensure safe forklift operation and prevent human interaction. 

MVPP Program 

MIOSHA established the MVPP program in 1996 to recognize employers with exemplary safety and health management systems that go above MIOSHA requirements. The MVPP program is open to all qualifying Michigan employers with injury and illness incident rates below the industry average for each of the last three years.
