LEO Issues RFP for $9 Million in Funding

LANSING, Mich.  The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Community Museum Grant Program, providing up to $9 million in funding to support museums and nonprofit foundations across Michigan that operate educational programs that foster artistic, scientific, technological or cultural exhibitions.

This funding demonstrates our commitment to helping museums not only survive but thrive as key resources for lifelong learning and engagement." 

Eligible applicants may receive grants of up to $1 million to support projects that stabilize, grow or enable museums to thrive in their educational and programmatic missions. The grant period spans from Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2029. 

Focus Areas for Proposals: Applicants are encouraged to propose projects in one or more of the following categories: 

  • Stabilize: Address immediate administrative, programmatic or infrastructure needs. 
  • Grow: Expand mission impact and programmatic reach to build internal capacity and sustainability. 
  • Thrive: Develop long-term strategic initiatives to achieve visionary goals. 

This opportunity is open to museums and nonprofit foundations operating educational programs in Michigan. Municipal, county, city, township, village and Tribal entities are also eligible. Priority will be given to applicants demonstrating the ability to leverage grant funds to secure additional federal or private funding. 

Important Dates: 

  • RFP questions deadline: Dec. 17, 2024. Email questions to leo-grants@michigan.gov. 
  • Application Deadline: Jan. 30, 2025, by 3 p.m. 

Weekly Office Hours: LEO will provide technical assistance during weekly office hours every Thursday at 10 a.m. EST while the application is open, except during holiday weeks. Specific dates include: 

  • Dec. 19, 2024. 
  • Jan. 9, 16 and 23, 2025.
