Over 100 Tree and Line Crews Continuing Restoration

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has restored over 90 percent of their service territory following Thursday night’s storm, with fewer than 3,481 customers remaining for their power to be restored. Over 100 tree and line crews equating to approximately 320 workers have been working to restore customers. Crews continue to work around the clock to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible. BWL is working toward restoration by late Tuesday or Wednesday.

“We’ve restored a significant number of our customers, but we won’t stop working until everyone has power,” said BWL General Manager Dick Peffley. “This is the single biggest storm in BWL history. Most of the remaining work involves removing trees that have impeded the replacement of broken poles and downed lines. We appreciate our customers’ continued patience while we work to get their power back on.”

Customers who have experienced an outage due to mast damage must have their mast repaired by a licensed electrician before the BWL is able to restore power. Masts are owned by customers, not the BWL, but customers may still use any of the BWL-approved electrical contractors to have repairs made and payments financed interest-free for 12 months. BWL is continuing to urge people to stay at least 25 feet from downed lines and treat intersections with traffic signals out as 4-way stops.

Customers can check the status of an outage, and report an outage or downed line by calling 877-295-5001, visiting the Outage Center at www.lbwl.com/outagecenter, using the BWL Outage Center mobile app, or texting “out” or “outage” to 898295 or txtbwl.
