The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL), with the help of mutual aid crews, has restored 98 percent of customers following the tornado that touched down in Lansing Thursday night, with 800 customers remaining to restore power. Work has been continuous the last four days to restore over 34,000 customers, and BWL is hoping for substantial restoration by the end of Wednesday.

“The tornado that hit Lansing Thursday night threw us a curveball,” said BWL General Manager Dick Peffley. “We’ve come a long way since Thursday night to bring us down to 800 customers remaining to restore power, but we still have work to do with over 200 locations left to deploy crews to. Being without power for five days is unquestionably frustrating. Know that we’re working hard to get your power back as safely and as quickly as possible.”

BWL offers an electric outage credit for customers who have been without power for over five days or 120 hours. Click here for more information.

Customers who have experienced an outage due to mast damage must have their mast repaired by a licensed electrician before the BWL is able to restore power. Masts are owned by customers, not the BWL, but customers may still use any of the BWL-approved electrical contractors to have repairs made and payments financed interest-free for 12 months. Click here for more information.

BWL is continuing to urge people to stay at least 25 feet from downed lines.

Customers can check the status of an outage, and report an outage or downed line by calling 877-295-5001, visiting the Outage Center at www.lbwl.com/outagecenter, using the BWL Outage Center mobile app, or texting “out” or “outage” to 898295 or txtbwl.
