Virtual Event to Support Local Nonprofits, Small Businesses and Musicians
Lansing, Mich. -- Lansing 5:01 is rolling up their (virtual) sleeves to support local nonprofits, small businesses and musicians who have contributed to the resurgence of the Lansing area. On Friday, May 1, from 5:01 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Lansing 5:01 will be LIVE on Facebook to host a concert featuring 11 Lansing-based musicians and a number of special guests.
Lansing 5:01, a nonprofit organization that aims to retain and attract talent to the Lansing region, traditionally hosts an in-person event on May 1, 2020 to kick off their Summer Showcase Series of events, and to celebrate the area. While the region and state are staying home to help contain the spread of COVID-19, Lansing 5:01 created the Lansing Live-A-Thon to virtually celebrate and engage the community to pledge their support to Lansing's future.
“Lansing is a community that's been ignited by our small businesses, artists, and place makers who have each played a unique and vital role in cultivating a place we all know and love,” said Chris Sell, Lansing 5:01’s founder and executive director. “Our region, state, and the nation are experiencing unprecedented circumstances and an uncertain future. Once our new normal returns, we want these small businesses, entertainment opportunities, and artisans to still be pillars in our community.”
“May 1 and our summer programming will look different this year,” continued Sell. “We’ve created Lansing Live-A-Thon to safely celebrate the community we know and love, and financially support some of our non-profits, local artists, and businesses. Without our support now, the places that make Lansing home may be in jeopardy.”
The organization has set a goal to raise a minimum of $5,001 for 10 destination non-profit organizations by midnight on May 1, 2020. Participating non-profits include Fenner Nature Center, Harris Nature Center Foundation, Impression 5 Science Center, Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Potter Park Zoo, REACH Studio Art Center, R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, Wharton Center for Performing Arts, and Woldumar Nature Center.
“We know the coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll -- financially and emotionally -- on our community. Our hope is that this virtual concert will both financially support local artists and small businesses while bringing an evening of joy to Lansing,” said Joshua Holliday, communications and marketing director for Lansing 5:01.
“As a thank you to supporters, Lansing 5:01 will gift the first 501 donors who donate at least $10 with a $5 e-gift card to one of many #LoveLansing businesses. Whether you donate $1, $5, $10, or $50, every bit counts.”
