Celebrating the Region’s Premier Coffee Brewers and Roasters
Lansing, MI -- Lansing 5:01 is bringing the region’s first annual coffee tasting event to the historic Cooley Gardens on Saturday, September 18. Dubbed Coffee Capitol, the event aims to celebrate Lansing’s robust community of roasters, brewers, and coffee houses -- including the founding location of the nationally renowned, BIGGBY COFFEE.
Attendees are invited to wander through the gardens while tasting brews from many of Michigan's greatest coffee creators, complemented with live music, delicious eats, and more.
“Greater Lansing will always be the home of BIGGBY COFFEE, as it’s where we opened our first store in 1995. This community’s love and appreciation for the brand has helped propel us to who we are today, a 100% franchised, purpose-driven company with over 260 locations,” said John Gilkey, president of BIGGBY COFFEE. “We are proud to support Coffee Capitol, and to shine a light on the Lansing region’s growing coffee scene, which cultivates a community where college graduates and young professionals want to plant their own roots.”
Building on their efforts over the past several years to retain and attract talent, Lansing 5:01 hosts a series of events throughout the year to showcase the best of Lansing to Lansing’s future. The non-profit organization partners with local employers and organizations to highlight the iconic sites and sounds of the Lansing region.
“The coffee culture has bloomed over the last several years, with a number of craft coffee houses, brewers, and roasters honing their craft in the Capital City,” said Christopher Sell, executive director of Lansing 5:01. “Coffee Capitol, made possible through the generous support of BIGGBY COFFEE and all of our corporate sponsors, will celebrate the social and economic contributions these coffee aficionados have made to our region.”
“The Lansing region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem is thriving, and the coffee scene is a big part of that. Our community has a rich historical coffee legacy, including BIGGBY as well as Paramount Coffee, founded in 1935 and now one of the largest coffee roasters in the Midwest,” said Josh Holliday, Communications Director of Lansing 5:01. “The new influx of Third Wave coffee and craft roasters in the region has ushered in a new coffee culture, and it is a continuation of that entrepreneurial spirit that makes this place special.”
Each attendee will receive a commemorative coffee cup and five tasting tickets, with additional tasting tickets available for purchase. Tickets are available for two slots, from 9 am to 12 pm, and from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Early-bird tickets, available until September 10 at 5 pm, are $30 per person. General tickets are available thereafter until the event concludes, at $35 per person. Registration and ticket purchases can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/
