-2020 to Present - push by the Biden Administration to reduce CO2 emissions, especially by reducing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and replacing them with electric vehicles
*2022 Biden Administration provided approximately $500 million to 12 states including Michigan under the Build Back Better program to help states begin the transition to reducing their carbon footprint. Michigan was one of the states
*February 2023 - Governor Whitmer announced she was committing $45M to the Clean Fleet Initiative in the 2024 budget which would provide Michigan cities, counties, public school districts, and universities/community college funds to begin transitioning their fleet vehicles to EVs.
*BizFleets, a Michigan-based fleet management company that helps governments and businesses manage their fleets of vehicles, developed a program (MIeFLEET) that was designed to provide technology and resources for the State and the public entities to accomplish the Governor’s $45M goal of assisting public entity fleets in Michigan to begin transitioning their fleet to EVs
*MIeFLEET program powered by BizFleets gained support from the Michigan legislature and has been recommended for approval in the House, Senate, and the Governor
*Within 12 months, The MIeFLEET would triple the number of EVs throughout Michigan’s public entities from approximately 300 vehicles which are mostly in southeastern Michigan to over 1,500 vehicles in every county, all cities, all school districts, and all universities/community colleges throughout Michigan.
*This will make Michigan the greenest state in the country by being the first state to have EVs in every public entity in the state.
*The local public entities will receive a vehicle for 36 months through a $0 cost lease.
*This will all be done without using any resources or funds from public entities throughout Michigan. The MIeFLEET technology developed by BizFleets and BizFleets resources will manage the entire program.
*The technology will be end-to-end. Promoting the program to local public entities, the public entities will then complete an application on the website when approved they will order their vehicles on the website simply by clicking on the type of EV they want, the vehicle will be ordered by BizFleets and the progress of the vehicle being built will be tracked on the MIeFLEET website, the vehicle will be scheduled for delivery to the local public entities, the BizFleets team will deliver the vehicle to each public entity through local dealerships, the vehicles will be maintained by BizFleets.
*At the end of the lease, the local entity can continue using the vehicle by signing up for a low-cost 36 months lease
*In addition, BizFleets will provide fleet services to all the public entities existing fleet including leasing additional vehicles, maintenance of their current fleet of vehicles, telematics, and other services
