Livestreaming brings government directly to residents

CHARLOTTE, MI – Residents can now get the latest on all Eaton County government-related matters with YouTube® livestreaming.

From important decisions made by County Commissioners to the latest Public Works projects, Eaton County has joined the streaming era to offer open access and transparency on all county-related issues. Sign up is free and easy with a click and subscribe at https://www.youtube.com/@EatonCounty1837-mi .

“We want to make it as easy as possible for county residents to hear and be involved in their government” said Commissioner Chair Jim Mott. “COVID started us down the path of Zoom meetings for the public. Shifting to YouTube livestreaming emerged as the next logical format for public access. Of course, in-person attendance is always welcomed.”

YouTube streaming allows viewers to watch county meetings in real time to promote transparency and accessibility. Eaton County’s current lineup includes the following regular meetings:

  • Board of Commissioners, 7 p.m., 3rd Wednesday of each month
  • Standing Committees:
    • Health & Human Services Committee, 9 a.m., 1st Monday of each month
    • Information Technology & Communications Committee, 4 p.m., 1st Wednesday of each month
    • Public Safety Committee, 4 p.m., 1st Thursday of each month
    • Public Works & Planning Committee, 9 a.m., 2nd Wednesday of each month.
    • Ways & Means Committee, 9 a.m., Friday before the Board of Commissioners meeting (except in November when the Committee meets Nov. 9)
  • Planning Commission, 7 p.m., 1st Tuesday of each month
  • Zoning Board of Appeals, 6 p.m., 1st Tuesday of each month

Some meeting dates and times are subject to change. The current schedule can be found online at www.eatoncounty.org/310/Committee-Assignments.

“The Board of Commissioners is pleased to offer yet another way for county residents to stay connected and informed,” said Mott. “Open access brings more voices and ideas to the table. All are welcome.”
