Rate drop during COVID prompts local initiative 

LANSING, MI – The Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) invites area residents to help make the community healthier through vaccinations.

            Launched in late July, the Your Shot campaign features colorful bandage graphics and positive messages on billboards, city buses, TV, social media, and printed materials in multiple languages. ICHD is working in partnership with the Barry-Eaton District and Mid-Michigan District health departments. The campaign’s timing coincides with National Immunization Awareness Month in August.

            “Our goal is to empower the community to get vaccinated,” said Dr. Nike Shoyinka, Ingham County Medical Health Officer. “Vaccinations rates have dropped, but we have the power to keep the community safe and healthy. We can get back on track with routine vaccinations together.”

            In addition to an emphasis on COVID-19 vaccinations, Your Shot reminds pregnant and parenting individuals that recommended vaccines protect both them and their babies from certain diseases. For everyone, staying up to date on vaccinations provides protection throughout their lifetime.

            “I encourage people to talk to their trusted healthcare professional about any questions or concerns they may have about vaccines. It’s natural to ask so that you can have peace of mind,” said Dr. Shoyinka.

            ICHD offers an array of resources on immunization schedules and routine vaccines, seasonal flu, COVID-19, travel preparations, and more. The health department also operates an Immunization Clinic at 5303 S. Cedar St. in Lansing and offers low-cost or free vaccines to those who qualify.
