I am excited to share the second issue of our eNewsletter.
Albeit virtually, this year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of our designation as National Resource Center by the U.S. Department of Education (i.e., CIBER). I’d like to thank everybody who has supported our programs and activities in different capacities. Michigan State University has a long tradition and commitment to international business and IBC has been serving as the guiding force for this commitment at the Broad College for the past thirty years. As the only U.S. Department of Education designated Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) in Michigan, and one of the fifteen centers in the entire US, IBC is a global leader and MSU’s epicenter for international business.
Ironically, we are celebrating our 30th anniversary during an unprecedented global crisis that puts international business education at the crossroads in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Clearly, globalization took a major hit in the past six months or so and it is in retreat. Businesses globally have experienced dramatic challenges and we still do not know how this pandemic will affect global business activity in the future. However, I believe that the Covid-19 pandemic represents an opportunity for globalization because recent events demonstrated that we need more integration coupled with stronger global institutions that will help us develop and coordinate more effective global responses to solve global problems (for more please see the “Globalization in the Post-Pandemic World" Summer Series Webinar at this YouTube Link below.

The biggest learning curve was the amount of effective communication needed with superiors and team members. At the IBC, I have gained skills of teamwork and effective writing. I have also learned a tremendous amount about international business. I am currently a senior accounting student at MSU. Following my Masters in Accounting Program, I am aiming to receive my CPA license and work full time at Deloitte in their Detroit Tax Practice. Life during the pandemic has been a great transition, but I have handled it by maintaining a solid schedule and finding small quiet places at my family’s chaotic house. Also, watching what feels like nearly the whole Netflix library has helped. The team lead at the IBC is a challenging task. It taught me valuable skills of responsibility, leadership, and communication. The biggest learning curve was the amount of effective communication needed with superiors and team members.
