Van Dyke Horn Public Relations Announces Georgella Muirhead as Chief Executive Officer
DETROIT – Van Dyke Horn Public Relations, Michigan’s largest minority-owned public relations agency, Monday announced that Georgella Muirhead, APR, has been chosen to serve as the agency’s interim CEO. Muirhead returns to a central role in VDH’s leadership team to replace Peter Van Dyke, who concluded his term as CEO last week to explore other opportunities.
Muirhead co-founded Berg Muirhead & Associates with Bob Berg in 1998, and the company was rebranded as Van Dyke Horn in 2016 when current president Marilyn Horn and Van Dyke acquired the agency. Muirhead served as president of Berg Muirhead for 18 years and has remained engaged with VDH, continuing to serve as of-counsel, as well as providing her leadership and experience for selected projects. With her appointment taking effect on March 4, Muirhead is already fully vested in her role, overseeing day-to-day client relations and operations across the agency.
“We are thrilled to have Georgella back at the helm of our agency,” said Marilyn Horn, president of Van Dyke Horn, who previously served as vice president of finance for Berg Muirhead. “Her deep expertise in strategic planning, public and media relations, stakeholder engagement, and community relations, coupled with a long history of working and collaborating with the city and state’s top business, political and community leaders, are a benefit to the Van Dyke Horn team, and to our clients, with next-level integrity, creativity, and knowledge.
“I would also like to thank Peter for his partnership over the last six years, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Horn.
An industry veteran and an accredited member (APR) of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Muirhead’s celebrated career includes 24 years as a government public relations administrator in the cities of Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Southfield, and Detroit. She has been recognized with over two dozen national, state, and local awards for outstanding work in the field of public relations and communications, including a 1992 PRSA Silver Anvil award for her instrumental role in developing and implementing the City of Detroit’s “Angel’s Night” campaign.
In December 2021, PRSA Detroit honored Muirhead’s extensive career and significant impact on the profession, presenting her with the 2021 PRSA Detroit Hall of Fame Award. (Video of the award presentation via YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1wdIEr-Cn4)
“I look forward to this exciting opportunity to once again work closely with our team of public relations experts and amazing clients,” said Muirhead. “Van Dyke Horn has always considered solving the challenges and celebrating the successes of our clients as personally as if they are our own. That legacy continues, and I am excited to get started.”
