20190821_083217From helping small businesses reach milestones, to developing cancer treatments through radio isotopes - How Jerry Hollister is making big waves in both worlds.

Jerry Hollister is the Principal Consultant at BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting, LLC which is a company that helps small businesses with the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and STTR program. Jerry also serves as the COO for Niowave. Jerry joined Mike Maddox to talk about his roles with both companies.

Kicking off with segment one, Mike and Jerry talk about his role at BBC and how he helps technology-based small businesses reach their milestones. Getting the technology and funds to build a product can be a big investment. Mike mentions in the interview how most people don’t realize that there is state and federal funding available to companies and startups, especially if the company is technology-based.

Jerry talks to Mike about the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the resources that most entrepreneurs and startups don’t know is even available to them. Thankfully, there are companies like Jerry’s that can help companies get seed funding, assistance with product development, marketing and advertising. Jerry explains that how he helps companies with drafting proposals to the government and getting access to these resources. As he puts it “we help you transition from a science project to a commercially viable business that is using science and technology for the business”.

Jerry talks about his role and experience working with Niowave and particle accelerators. Niowave is a world-wide leader in research, development, manufacturing and operation of superconducting electron linear accelerators which are used for medical radioisotope production.

Mike and Jerry’s conversation get deep into particle accelerators. It’s a lot of talk about electrons, uranium, isotopes and what all of it means and can be used for. Radio isotopes are primarily used for medical purposes like imaging and therapies. One of the isotopes Niowave is in the process of developing will be used as a cancer treatment where the radio isotope is delivered in a very targeted way to just the cancer cells. As the isotope decays, it takes the energy from the decay process and destroys that cell.
