Additional Hike Expected
Foster Swift Labor & Employment Law News E-blast
On January 1, 2023, Michigan’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase from $9.87 to $10.10 per hour. Under the change, wages for tipped employees are also set to increase from $3.75 to $3.84 per hour.
Michigan employers should also be aware that following the January 1, 2023, increase of minimum wage, the Michigan Court of Appeals may reinstate the States' original Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act (IWOWA) and Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA). Currently, there is a stay in place until February 19, 2023, precluding reinstatement of the IWOWA and ESTA. If this stay is lifted and the IWOWA is reinstated, Michigan's minimum wage will increase to:
- $13.03 per hour for non-tipped workers.
- $11.73 per hour for tipped employees (90% of the full minimum wage).
