The Art of Small Talk: How To Connect in a Hybrid World
Are you a fan of small talk, or do you find it awkward and inauthentic?
Whether chatting with co-workers or exchanging pleasantries with a cashier at the grocery store, small talk can be an important way to build rapport and deepen trust. While some people feel small talk at work is just a distraction, research suggests that spontaneous conversations can spark collaboration, improve innovation and increase creativity. In fact, one survey found that on days workers made more small talk, they experienced more positive emotions, felt less burned out, and were more willing to go out of their way to help a colleague.
The shift to remote work during the pandemic revealed the need for small talk as a social ritual. When the lines between work and home blurred, small talk served as a way to connect with co-workers and transition into a business mindset despite being at home. Now, as workers everywhere navigate both remote and in-person conversations, we can all benefit from perfecting the art of small talk! Join host Jenn DeWall as she explores how to build better relationships and deeper connections through conversation.
