At Convergence Networks, we believe that giving back to our community is a foundational pillar of business, and are thrilled to be able to partner with Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, or CASA.
CASA provides volunteer advocacy within the Michigan court system and the community, on behalf of children in the foster care system who have experienced abuse and neglect. CASA is committed to serving every child they can regardless of race, background, or identity because they believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive, and permanent home where they can thrive.
At CASA, all volunteers go through extensive training on trauma, child development, child welfare, advocacy, DEI, and the court system. These volunteers are matched with a supervisory staff who provides ongoing mentorship and support. They are then sworn in as officers of the court and intentionally matched with a child or sibling group, who they then meet with weekly for the entirety of the court case. Volunteers receive a court order that gives them access to all information pertaining to the child. This is unique, as there is no other role that entrusts volunteers or paid individuals outside of the child welfare system.
Convergence has committed to supporting CASA’s initiatives, and we are sharing ways our network can help, with the opportunities below.
CASA is seeking volunteers from the Lansing community with a wide array of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and expertise to better match children with an advocate that can effectively advocate for their best interest!
