As Mark McDaniel's family was busy gearing up for the holidays, he shared this message.
"As we plan to gather with family and friends to celebrate, I can’t help thinking about the families that will be together and safe this holiday season thanks to Haven House.
Haven House provides housing and support services to keep homeless families together and safe until they can find a permanent place to call home. Tragically, many families that seek refuge at shelters are separated and children are frequently put into the foster care system. Homelessness in childhood is a trauma that is considered an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). ACEs are proven to have long-term negative effects on children in critical areas like education, life expectancy, employment, addiction, poverty, and crime. Removing the potential for any ACE experience, like homelessness, can provide a long-term positive impact on children’s lives. This is why I am passionate about supporting the work of Haven House – they keep families together and get them back on their feet.
Pancake Palooza 2023 will be held in-person on February 25th at 2 42 Community Church in Okemos, MI, at 9:00 a.m. Thanks to the support of partners like you, Haven House provided help to over 85 families from Pancake Palooza 2022, and I want to beat that! This year, I have a personal goal to raise $40,000 before the event to commemorate Haven House’s 40 years of helping families, and I need you to help me reach my goal! Under Mark’s leadership, Cinnaire has been recognized nationally as one of the Top 50 Nonprofits to work for, a Crain’s Detroit Business Cool Place to Work, and a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace.
Mark has served on more than 25 local, state, and national non-profit and housing boards. He is currently or has served as a founding board member for Michigan Habitat for Humanity; Michigan Housing Council, past president; NH&RA, board member; FHLB Indiana, board member and chair of Housing Advisory Council; Michigan Community Capital, board member. Mark is the honorary Chairperson and master of ceremonies for the Greater Lansing Area MLK Commission Holiday luncheon, the nation’s largest MLK day celebration.
