a special presentation at General Motors Flint Assembly Plant off Van Slyke.

Partnering with General Motors, Flint Assembly Plant leaders, Back to the Bricks® Board of Directors, Committee members and Volunteers, and many local Corvette Groups, today’s presentation was a sort of “Cruise N” feel at the General Motors Flint Assembly plant. GM employees were able to join in on their lunch break to help celebrate and take part in the festivities.

Back to the Bricks® Executive Director Amber Taylor noted the significance of Flint as the birth of the Corvette, which rolled off the line, on June 30th, 1953, and how thrilled the Back to the Bricks® organization is in honoring and celebrating this monumental day.

Notable speakers included Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley, UAW 598 President Ryan Buchalski, Genesee County Clerk / Register of Deeds Domonique Clemons, and featured guest speaker Ed Piatek, Chief Engineer on Corvette Programs. All spoke in one way or another of the background of the Corvette, the appreciation of Back to the Bricks® marking this significant day, and the many historical ties to Genesee County and Flint that are specific to the Corvette.

Clemons presented two proclamations to General Motors and to Back to the Bricks® on behalf of State Senator John Cherry, and Genesee County. The General Motors proclamation highlighted the history of Corvette production in Flint, and the Genesee County Commissioners thanked the Back to the Bricks® organization for their continued work in preserving and celebrating the automobile industry and how much the organization continues to honor and educate everyone through Car Shows, Special Events, Presentations, and more.

Each spectator received a special dash card commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Corvette, and all were invited to attend this Friday’s 70th-anniversary party that was later held in Grand Blanc at the future home of the General Motors Heritage Center off Hill Road. Show hours on June 30th are 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., an event that was free to all cruisers and spectators. Local rock group, “After it All,” took to the stage at 7:00 p.m. to perform a special show.
