In 2018, our business development team visited with nearly 500 businesses in Marquette County. For the LSCP, that was a new record! Thanks to all of you who opened your office door to speak with us and allow us to hear your challenges and opportunities. Many of you toured us through your facilities providing a hands on experience that helps us better understand your industry and how we may be able to assist.
Washington, DC – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announces that the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) has once again been recognized as one of 60 economic development organizations accredited by IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). Originally accredited in 2011, this is the second time the organization has been reaccredited by IEDC following many successful years of activity as an AEDO member.

Reflections by host of 'U.P. Perspectives' Amy Clickner of Lake Superior Community Partnership:
As we head to the mid-way point of 2018 (can you believe it?) I thought it was a great time to review the activities of the LSCP and its partners from the first half of the year.
Kicking off the year, we held our Annual Meeting and Annual Dinner. The meeting is a more formal event with organizational business being held. We were able to share a presentation celebrating 20 years of economic development success and we recognized outgoing Chairman Dennis Smith while welcoming Chairman Brett French. This meeting is not just for the board of directors, but rather open to all investors of the LSCP.

Remarks by 'U.P. Perspectives' host Amy Clickner:
I can’t believe it’s time to talk golf! How time flies! As the weather warms up, the LSCP events team starts planning our golf outing, second largest fundraiser of the year.
We know there are many golf outings over the course of the summer and are thankful our partners and the community continue to prioritize and support ours. Our goal this year is to raise $14,000, which will go directly toward economic development services that we provide to Marquette County.
With the hustle and bustle of the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) graduation season behind us, I’d like to take some time and dedicate today’s column to all who have graduated from programs under the LSCP umbrella over the past month.
Since its establishment in 1998, the Lake Superior Leadership Academy (LSLA) has had the mission of facilitating the leaders of today helping to build skilled leaders for tomorrow. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the program, it is a project of the LSCP that is designed to educate and motivate emerging and potential leaders from within Marquette County, while helping them build important business networks and leadership skills.
So let’s go back to February 2 when Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. CEO, Lourenco Goncalves, challenged our community to show our support for mining in Michigan as he weighs his options to expand operations in Michigan or Minnesota. Let me tell you, while it sounded like an easy task, it kept me up at night for quite some time. How in the world would we be able to show our support and make it impactful? Those jobs and that investment is an economic developer’s dream.
But soon, a plan started to emerge and we went to work to execute it. Online petitions, letters of support, Facebook, resolutions, symbols of the community that could be pulled into a nice package. But what would tie it all together and preserve our message? Why a video, of course!
Public policy is not something everyone thinks about but is very important in how our society is managed. The Center for Civic Education defines specific attributes of public policy that help to expand on the above basic definition.
You can clearly see that a key ingredient for good public policy is the “public” part. That is you and me. When we vote, we are making a choice of individuals we trust to work through the policy process, often referred to as sausage making, with our best interests in mind.
While you are familiar with the LSCP and our economic development efforts in Marquette County, you may not realize that there are similar organizations across the U.P. that serve the same purpose in their communities. You may surmise that we fight for projects and protect our turf, but, we actually do quite the opposite.
