Students United: Mobile Minds Flipping Society

Students United: Mobile Minds Flipping Society, hosted by Jeff Croley and Jason LaFay, intends to help merge the worlds of education and business by featuring innovative programs, projects, and people in K12 education throughout Michigan and beyond. The show aims to be the voice of K12 innovation. In order to better understand what is happening in schools it is important to provide a narrative of how education is evolving. To ensure a new generation of learner is adequately prepared, driven, and passionately ready for the workforce old divides must be bridged.

GES15 was Michigan Governor Snyder's Economic and Education Summit for this year. This event was held in Detroit March 2nd and 3rd

The Michigan Creativity Group attended, taking in the learning experience, and applied their interviewing skills as "Students United" to get on-site perspectives.

Teacher Jason LaFay spoke with Michael Finney, Governor Rick Snyder's advisor for Economic Development and former head of the MEDC, for the economic perspective and how it impacts education. Student Samantha White interviewed Notre Dame Prep High School Seniors who have a STEM team that were demonstrating their robots at the GES15.

John VanWagoner is a passionate advocate for increasing more innovation and creativity in Michigan K-12 schools. He is one of the founders of the Michigan Innovative Schools Conference. His responses to the questions posed by Geoffry and Ben detail how more dialogue is necessary for pockets of innovation to spread throughout Michigan. John has also been an active participant in the "Day of Conversation" events put on by edTech Specialists to provide opportunities for school districts to discuss what the future of education will be like.

DeWitt High School students Geoffry Croley and Ben Zamiara of the Michigan Creativity Group interviewed several champions of the Michigan "education innovation movement" at the Michigan Innovative Schools Conference on December 9, 2014. Linda Forward of the Michigan Department of Education commented on the state of Michigan K-12 education innovation. Additionally, Linda commented on the importance of getting school districts to share best practices and collaborate in order to provide all students with cutting-edge learning opportunities. The Michigan Creativity Group is excited at the prospect of working with Linda - whose focus at the MDE is on innovation and school improvement - to create more events throughout the state to showcase student and educator work

It seeks to bring together those who want to promote creativity,positivity, and innovation in K-12 education. They hope to bring the education and business sectors together.
