AAA trades massive in-person travel shows for a socially distant environment
DEARBORN, Mich., (April 12, 2021) — A sign of the times, AAA is forgoing its annual in-person travel shows this year, which normally attract thousands of people to area convention centers. Instead, The Auto Club Group will host these shows virtually, giving prospective travelers an opportunity to plan their next vacation in a socially distant environment.
“Travel is on the rebound right now, as bookings with AAA increased in March,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With vaccines becoming more widely available, people are feeling more confident about traveling again. However, because of the pandemic, some things are not yet open for travelers. This travel show will enable people to talk directly to the experts. They can ask questions, learn about emerging trends, and even book their next vacation all from the comfort of their own home.”
Virtual travel shows have really caught on. Since the pandemic began, attendance to AAA live virtual events has more than tripled, with an increase of more than 240 percent. The top three reasons Michigan residents cite for attending a virtual travel show are because it’s more convenient (20%), to avoid being in crowds (27%), and to avoid getting sick (25%) – according to a new AAA travel survey.
