The Michigan state average is still 21 cents less than this time last month

DEARBORN, Mich., (November 18, 2024) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 9 cents compared to last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.13 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 21 cents less than this time last month and 18 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $46 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $12 from 2023's highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose from 8.82 million b/d to 9.38. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 211.3 million barrels to 206.8, while gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.3 million barrels per day.  

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 31 cents to settle at $68.43 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 2.1 million barrels from the previous week. At 429.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.

"Michigan gas prices continue the up and down rollercoaster, with the state average rising nine cents from last week," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "If demand continues to increase, alongside tight gasoline stocks, then pump prices may continue to increase."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.13 per gallon, about 3 cents more than last week’s average but still 22 cents less than this same time last year.

• Combine errands to limit driving time.

• Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.

• Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
