The 23rd annual Run for the House returns March 19
All proceeds from the annual 5K, 10K, and kids’ race benefit families with sick and hospitalized children receiving support from Ronald McDonald House Charities Mid-Michigan
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Ronald McDonald House Charities Mid-Michigan’s (RMHCMM) annual Run for the House race returns for its 23rd year in East Lansing on Sunday, March 19. Proceeds from the event ensure the House can continue to provide a home-away-from-home to families with hospitalized children at Lansing-area hospitals and clinics. MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) is the event’s title sponsor.
For the past decade, MSUFCU has supported the Run for the House. MSUFCU’s headquarters on West Road in East Lansing offers a scenic race route allowing participants to enjoy the fresh air and ample parking.
“It has been such a privilege to support the House’s amazing work for the past 10 years and we’re honored to be the title sponsor again this year,” said Chelsea Schaberg, MSUFCU’s vice president of human resources and RMHCMM board member. “We look forward to hosting a wonderful race day for runners, walkers, and volunteers supporting the amazing work the House does in our community.”
Since 2001, Run for the House has made a difference for families with seriously ill children. The event raises awareness and money to provide a place to call home during life's most challenging moments. It also serves as an opportunity for families who’ve previously stayed at the House to reunite with the people who gave them support when they needed it the most.
One family in attendance this year, Ken and Dianne Morton of Mount Pleasant, stayed at the House when one of their twins, Jacqueline, was transported to E.W. Sparrow Hospital shortly after birth due to collapsed lungs. Now 17, healthy twins Jacqueline and Toby get to run alongside their parents and give back to the House that supported them.
“We couldn’t be more appreciative for the support we had staying at the House while Jaqueline was in the hospital,” Ken Morton said. “All our concerns about having to commute and not being able to be there for her went away. This experience gave us a lot more gratitude for things we never thought we’d need. Thanks to the House, we get to participate in the Run as a family,”
The in-person kid's races begin at 9:15 a.m. and the 5K and 10K races begin at 10 a.m. There will also be a virtual race in which participants can walk or run any distance at any time from March 17-19. Online registration is open for the race through the morning of the in-person event.
