President & CEO’s Message

There is a lot of excitement at Bay Future, Inc., and in our community, as we continue to work closely with leaders at Michigan Sugar Company and SK Siltron CSS, following two of the largest capital expenditure investment announcements Bay County has ever experienced.

Much of our role, currently, lies in assisting these businesses in overcoming any potential external barriers or roadblocks and for ensuring we are doing all we can to keep these projects on schedule. You can hear more about the role we play from BFI Board of Director and Michigan Sugar Director of Communications and Community Relations, Rob Clark, in this month’s investor spotlight!

Partners like these make it possible for us to continue to Drive Bay County Forward!

On a side note: I am also grateful for, and would like to thank, the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and Thumb Bank & Trust for the distinction and the honor of being awarded the
Leadership Alumni Community Service Award. I am so proud and feel so extremely fortunate to live in a community where good people work hard and work together to make great things happen!

Happy reading,

Michigan Sugar Company Investing $65+ Million
Michigan Sugar Investment Announcement

Michigan Sugar Company announced plans to invest more than $65 million to construct a desugarization facility at its factory located at 2600 S. Euclid Ave. in Bay County’s Monitor Township (commonly known as the company’s Bay City factory).

The facility will allow Michigan Sugar Company to produce up to an additional 80 million pounds of pure, all-natural sugar annually from molasses that is a byproduct of the process through which sugar is extracted from sugarbeets. Currently, Michigan Sugar Company has the capacity to extract additional sugar from 60% of its molasses. The new facility will allow the company to extract additional sugar from 100% of its molasses.

This $65+ million announcement follows the company’s announcement of a $2 million investment to expand their packaging operation at the Bay City facility. The project also includes installation of a new brown sugar packaging machine, sugar transport system and the infrastructure to add another line in the future.
