We started working with Wilkinson Minerals about two years ago as they were searching for a location that would be the future home of their processing and business operations. The goal was to locate close to the product they had plans to extract and process (brine) along what is called the Sylvania, Marshall, and Saginaw Sandstone Formations and aquafers. The same brine that was the source material and foundation for Dow, and one that had close ties to the lumber industry in Bay City/Bay County history, is making a come back, more than 140 years later, and will be used, today, in the production of an array of downstream products.
Last February, we jubilantly announced this $50 million investment. $50 million is a big project in any community, but to double and even triple that investment (to $150 Million) over the type of year we’ve had in our community is something we should really celebrate. We are very excited about this investment!
The capital investment will be well over $150 Million and will bring over 80 New Jobs with an Average Wage of Over $57,000 Annually.
We’re thankful for the investment by Wilkinson Minerals and the partnership from the City of Bay City, the City of Essexville, and Bay County for helping to make this project a reality. A special thanks, as always, to our Bay Future: Drive. Forward. Investors, as well, whose investment in economic development strategies allow our team to carry out this transformational work!
We greatly appreciate the partnerships and support from those of you who have joined us in economic growth efforts and for those of you who helped celebrate those successes by attending and viewing our annual meeting.
Together, we will continue to Drive Bay County Forward!
Happy reading,
