President & CEO’s Message

Happy New Year! Here at Bay Future, Inc., we are eager to welcome in a new year as we continue to Drive Bay County Forward and work to carry out our mission of securing opportunities for business retention, growth, and investment, and the attraction of new industries to create quality jobs for community residents.

One of the many partners we work collaboratively with to attain this mission is Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! At the end of 2021, GLBMW! worked tirelessly with regional businesses to apply for the 2022 Going PRO Talent Fund.

This program provides awards to employers to assist in training, developing, and retaining current and newly hired employees to eligible employers. The funding provides the opportunity to fill a talent need by the employer and must lead to a credential for a skill that is transferable and recognized by industry.

Congratulations to GLBMW! and the 30+ companies throughout the region on successful applications of over $1 million training award. Since 2014, 5,300 awards have been provided to businesses throughout the State of Michigan.

We are thankful for the impact of this program, and grateful for the work done by Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! that support our local companies and workforce.

Last month, we were honored to see and celebrate the continued growth in Uptown Bay City and the work of so many partners and contributors.

Dr. Samuel Shaheen shared during the ceremony that a little over ten years ago their family began discussing what a development like Uptown could do for Bay City.

Fast forward a decade later and we are seeing that vision become a reality, and multiply, as hundreds of residents along with many business owners and tenants call the once dilapidated parcel, “home”.

With a spirit of gratitude, the Shaheen Family could not be happier of the development’s enduring impact on Bay City.

Thank you Shaheen Development, the City of Bay City, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and so many others for your continued work.

The “Our Town” gift card promotion made possible by Consumers Energy, provided the opportunity to double the amount shoppers could spend across Michigan, including Bay County. In 2021 alone, the Our Town Promotion had over $55,000 direct impact on Bay County businesses.

The intention of the program was to support small businesses who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 through various operating restrictions and those experiencing less foot traffic due to rising case numbers.

“We could choose to develop these buildings in any location, any site throughout the state or across the country, but we chose Bay City because we believe in the things Bay City has to offer and the partnership with Bay Future.”
