Flint, MI – 7.31.2025 — Back to the Bricks® President Amber Taylor is proud to announce exciting and long-awaited updates to the Automotive Pioneer Statue Plaza, just in time for the highly anticipated Back to the Bricks® Main Event on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
“The work at the Statue Plaza is long overdue,” said Taylor. “For years, we’ve been working diligently to address the deteriorating condition of the bricks. While these bricks hold incredible historical value and honor countless individuals, we want to assure the community that they will not be discarded. Instead, we’ve partnered with Curbco to renovate the plaza, making it more durable for Michigan weather—while also offering families the opportunity to receive their original pavers.”
Key Improvements Underway:
• Careful Removal & Preservation of Existing Pavers: Each commemorative brick is being
carefully removed and placed on pallets for future return to the families.
• New Stamped Concrete Installation: A fresh, durable surface will be poured using stamped concrete to resemble the historic Saginaw Street bricks.
• Landscaping Enhancements: Repairs and backfilling will restore the surrounding green space and improve the overall aesthetic of the plaza.
Digital Recognition for Donors:In a new initiative, Back to the Bricks® will now recognize all past brick donors on its official website. “While online recognition wasn’t included when the bricks were originally purchased, we want to ensure every supporter is honored,” Taylor explained. “Donors will be listed by brick size—small, medium, or large—as a lasting expression of our gratitude.”
Looking to the Future:
These plaza renovations are just the beginning. Plans are underway for additional features in the coming years, including:
• New seating areas
• Expanded recognition of the automotive pioneers, partners, and sponsors who help make Back to the Bricks® one of the premier downtown events in Michigan.
“To the families who purchased bricks—rest assured, you will have the opportunity to reclaim them once the work is complete,” said Taylor. “It is my personal promise to have this project finished before the snow starts to fly.”
Back to the Bricks® appreciates the community’s patience and continued support during this renovation. These updates are a vital step in preserving the legacy of Flint’s automotive pioneers while enhancing the beauty and functionality of Downtown Flint.
Amber Taylor concludes:
“Thank you for being a part of this incredible community. We look forward to celebrating with you during this year’s Back to the Bricks® Main Event on August 16!”
