What We’re Wondering

pondering grief

We’re living in a topsy-turvy world right now, and the Arts Council has been having some conversations about collective loss and grief. That led us to exploring the way grief affects us and how artmaking, arts or participating in arts experiences, has the ability to help us express, process, and even heal from loss. We would love to know our Greater Lansing community’s opinion on this, so we invite you to explore with us, and share your thoughts. We found this beautiful podcast by “MoMa Magazine,” featuring a variety of artists speaking about grief and art. We hope you will listen to “How Can Art Help With Feelings of Grief?” (27 min.) And please answer the question below by clicking on a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” icon. We thank you in advance for your thoughts! (Photo: Nicole Eisenman. “Death Playing Checkers.”)

The Lowdown

There’s so much happening in the CapCity local arts and culture scene, it’s hard to keep up. That’s why we love the 517 Living Calendar and have partnered with them to feature all of the arts and culture related events on our events page of our website. So make sure you check out everything that’s going on in the region (also share your arts events at 517 Living, and they will automatically show up on our website too!) Make your plans!

Headliners

It’s hard to decide what gets top billing in Arts News, but here are a few things we felt deserved some noise.

july grant chat

legendary women of lansing

We are so excited to share Downtown Lansing Inc.’s “Legendary Women of Lansing” project. The team at DLI is working with local artists to create public art around the City that tells stories of amazing Lansing women. They’re partnering with Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, and the Historical Society of Greater Lansing, to create several artist-designed installations that tell stories about the women who left a mark on Lansing. We can’t wait for these visual stories to come to life for all to see. Learn More.

Located in the REACH sculpture garden along Smith St. in REO Town, the library is stocked and ready for visitors! REACH looks forward to seeing creatives stop by to explore what’s inside, and help keep creativity circulating throughout the community! (Photo: REACH Studio Art Center) Learn more.
