WHAT: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases monthly employment situation reports that outline the current unemployment rate and specific household and establishment survey data. In June 2025, total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 147,000 and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.1%.
Other key insights from the report include:
- The nonfarm payroll employment increase of 147,000 is similar to the average monthly gain of 146,000 over the past year.
- In June 2025, Federal government employment declined by 7,000.
- Job gains occurred primarily in health care, state government, and social assistance.
- The unemployment rate has remained in a narrow range of 4% to 4.2% since last May 2024.
