Jackson, MI — Members of the ABC Greater Michigan Chapter, along with several local construction companies, recently came together to make a dream come true for a very special child. In partnership with Make-A-Wish® Michigan, the team helped grant Brooklynn’s wish: a custom, wheelchair-accessible treehouse to be built at her home in Jackson.
When Make-A-Wish Michigan reached out to the ABC Greater Michigan Chapter for support on this unique project, members quickly stepped up to the challenge—donating time, materials, expertise, and funds to bring Brooklynn’s vision to life.
Brooklynn, who uses a wheelchair, and her family selected a treehouse design that would give her greater independence and accessibility—something not always possible at traditional parks or play areas. “She loves to be outside, so a wheelchair-accessible treehouse will be her very own fort in nature,” said her mom, Lauren Stiles. “She’ll be able to read, relax, and enjoy the outdoors in a space that’s truly hers.”
Over the past few months, volunteers have worked diligently to design and build the treehouse June 6-7, which will feature a 50-foot ramp to ensure safe and easy access. The project reflects not only thoughtful planning, but also a strong commitment to inclusivity and community.
“It takes a bit of coordination to get everyone together, but when people and companies are so open and willing to help, they make the process seamless. I have been receiving calls and emails from more and more members wanting to help in some way. From the supply houses donating all the materials, to the skilled tradesmen donating their time, it’s truly been heartwarming to see,” said Andrew Godin, one of the lead volunteers for the project and Director of Construction at Next Chapter Construction in Lansing.
The effort was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of ABC Greater Michigan members, including A4H Construction, Carter Lumber, Chelsea Lumber, Community Building Services, Next Chapter Construction, RW Mercer, and Shafer Redi-Mix. Additional support came from Shane Hernandez of ABC Michigan, Independence Commercial Construction, and Spicer Group.
The total project cost of $18,694 was covered largely by donations from companies listed above, showcasing the power of community and collaboration in making wishes come true.
“I’ve always enjoyed serving people in need. That is one of the major reasons why I got into the construction industry. Being able to give back to the community is so humbling and to be able to be part of a team that can make a difference in a girl’s life is beyond rewarding,” Godin said.
