AAA: Michigan Gas Prices Fall Another 6 Cents

The Michigan state average is down $1.37 compared to last year

DEARBORN, Mich., (April 20, 2020) – Gas prices in Michigan declined 6 cents compared to a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $1.47 per gallon for regular unleaded, which is the lowest average seen since February 2016. This price is 47 cents less than this time last month and $1.37 less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $22 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $22 from when prices were their highest last July.

Growing domestic gas supply and lower demand, as Americans practice social distancing, and low crude prices due to COVID-19 continue to push pump prices down. In its latest weekly report, the Energy Information Administration released new data that shows total domestic gasoline stocks grew by 4.9 million bbl last week to 262.2 million bbl, which is 34.3 million bbl more than last year’s level at this time. Meanwhile, gas demand registered at 5.1 million b/d for a second week.

“With Michigan residents following stay at home orders and refiners producing excess gasoline, growing gasoline inventories and low demand will continue to push pump prices lower,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA – The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $1.47 per gallon, about 7 cents less than last week’s average and about $1.38 less than this same time last year.
