The Michigan state average is down 3 cents from last week
DEARBORN, Mich., (February 17, 2025) – Gas prices in Michigan are down 3 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.07 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 7 cents less than this time last month and 16 cents less than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $46 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $11 from 2024’s highest price last July.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.32 million b/d to 8.57. Total domestic gasoline supply dropped from 251.1 million barrels to 248.1, while gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.3 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI dropped $1.95 to settle at $71.37 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 4.1 million barrels from the previous week. At 427.9 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.
“Michigan drivers are seeing a slight decrease in prices at the pump,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “If demand continues to increase, alongside tightening stocks, gas prices could begin to rise.”
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.14 per gallon, about 1 cent less than last week’s average and 12 cents less than this same time last year.
