It seems like back-to-school advertising starts earlier and earlier each summer. But not this year. More marketers held their back-to-school spots until later in the season, according to ad tracking firm, Ace Metrix. TV ads began airing in July, rather than in June, and July ad volume was down 40%, according to the data. “It’s interesting that advertisers are finally getting the message that consumers don’t want to be rushed into back-to-school thinking,” said Peter Daboll, CEO of Ace Metrix.
If you’re looking to earn free flights, upgrades and other perks when you fly, you’re better off on some airlines than others. Alaska Airlines has the best frequent-flier program for consumers, according to an annual analysis of U.S. airlines released by U.S. News & World Report. If you’re hunting for a job, it may be time to switch industries. The pharmaceutical and construction industries have the largest talent shortages, meaning that they have the lowest number of job applicants for the pool of jobs that need to be filled, according to an analysis of 2,700 companies from 2014 to the first quarter of this year by iCIMS, which provides software that helps companies connect with, recruit and hire employees.
