Lansing Regional Chamber Joins Call for Graduated Restaurant Reopening

Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce

The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) has joined with 13 other business organizations in Michigan in calling for a graduated reopening of the state’s restaurants.  In a letter to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Coalition says it supports a science-based and data-driven reopening.

“There is no question that some industries have been hit harder than others as a result of the pandemic, and the restaurant industry has been one of the most heavily impacted,” said Tim Daman, president & CEO, LRCC. “Positivity rates are trending in the right direction, and news of more vaccines reaching our state residents is an encouraging sign for all of us, particularly for our struggling restaurants.”

The business Coalition noted that its collective memberships represent all industry types. The letter to the Governor says the group “continues to address the pandemic with these guiding principles as we work together in our response and recovery efforts:

  • Businesses need clarity, consistency, and transparency on decisions made
  • All industries should be allowed to open with proper safety protocols
  • We must be precise on how we control outbreaks
  • Continue to utilize best practices- informed by data- on ways to protect our citizens
