Lansing high school is recognized for its creative blended learning approaches in competition continued from 2020

OKEMOS, Mich. – NexTech High School of Lansing has been selected as a finalist for the 2020 Innovation and Vision Award by the Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools and Central Michigan University. NexTech is being recognized for its innovative approaches in a blended learning environment to fit the ever-changing needs of their community.

“At NexTech, we’re able to provide personalized, innovative learning opportunities for our students because of our experience in a blending learning environment,” said school leader Nathan Beyer. “We’re able to advocate for our students thanks to our unique teaching style and environment in the world of COVID-19 and beyond.”

The Innovation and Vision Awards serve as an opportunity for CMU partner schools to celebrate what makes them unique and increase funding for their school. The awards recognize charter schools implementing innovative programs and partnerships to provide opportunities for their students. Due to COVID-19, this year’s competition is a continuation of the 2020 awards.

NexTech is one of three finalists for the competition. First place recipients will be awarded $3,000, second place will receive $2,000 and third place earns $1,000. The prize money will be distributed following the contest voting during the 2020-21 school year.

Winners of the Innovation and Vision Award contests are determined by attendee voting at the annual conference. The 2020 conference has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual voting may be used to determine the place of each of the finalists in the contest.
