LCC student newspaper wins Newspaper of the Year

The Lookout earns 13 awards at the Michigan Press Association Better Newspaper Contest 

LANSING, Mich. (April 1, 2021) – LCC student newspaper The Lookout earned a total of 13 awards, including Newspaper of the Year, in the 2020 Michigan Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. The announcement came March 25 during a virtual press conference via Zoom.

The Lookout was among 20 newspapers that competed in the college MPA competition, with 746 total entries presented. Competing in Division 3 of the competition, for newspapers published less than weekly The Lookout competed against several two-year colleges, including Washtenaw Community College, Henry Ford Community College, Schoolcraft College, Monroe County Community College and Grand Rapids Community College.

“It is a great honor to be named Newspaper of the Year by the Michigan Press Association,” said The Lookout advisor Larry Hook. “This was the second time in four years we have received this award. Our staff in 2019-20 was very inexperienced, with only one returning person on the staff from the previous year. They took their jobs very seriously and learned very fast. They work great together as a team and I am so proud of them for all their hard work and success.”

In addition to the Newspaper of the Year award, The Lookout staff earned the following honors:
