K-12 Alliance to Administration: Clear Guidance Still Needed
LANSING– The K-12 Alliance of Michigan released the following statement from Mark Greathead, Superintendent of Woodhaven-Brownstown Schools and President of K-12 Alliance, in response to Governor Whitmer’s recommendation that schools pause sports and return to remote learning.
“We’ve said since day one of this pandemic that while educators are best suited to make the decisions necessary to support our students’ learning and social growth, we need health experts to determine how and when that can be done safely. Today’s announcement from Governor Whitmer, unfortunately, raised serious concerns about the rapid rise in COVID-19 numbers while leaving us to determine how to respond to that on behalf of our students’ health, a decision that I, as an educator, am neither qualified nor should be expected to make. We’re committed to working with our local health departments in maintaining the educational programs and activities that are vital to our students’ academic success and social-emotional wellbeing.”
